beatle-mania

Found this video during some random Facebookery

Just as relevant now as they were 50 years ago - with a little help from the Fort Knox Five. Apparently this is for some Rockband game. I wouldn't know.
The Beatles vs For Knox 5 - REVOLUTION (DC's Finest Remint)

and something that's a little more dubstep
The Beatles - Eleanor Rigby (4 Centres Remix)

acoustically awesome - and then some

One of my favorite Thievery Corp. songs of all time - now in acoustic form.

Continue to be blown away - listen to the below:

Thievery Corporation - La Femme Parallel

Thievery Corporation - Sound the Alarm

Thievery Corporation - The Richest Man in Babylon

dreamy french music - 60s style - and potentially beach like

Monday of last week was scientifically proven to be the most depressing day of the year. I beg to differ, smart guys.

Music that cheers me up - I'll just tell myself that I'm on a beach somewhere... and for some reason, it's 1960.

 - and I'm this guy

 - and I only understand french

La Femme - Sur La Planche

This one has french in the title - give me a break on the theme. I only brought the french thing into it so I could post that picture.
Camera Obscura - French Navy

Carla Bruni - Quelqu'un ma dit

Lola Dutronic - Walking on Sunshine

dance dance revolution

Let's bring a different something to the table:

It's time to say a little OMG to DFA 1979 who are reuniting for Coachella. It will be a beautiful thing to behold (and belisten to?).

DFA 1979 - Black History Month      buy it

Another 90s fav - creeping back - and decidedly better than the original.
Marcy Playground - Sex and Candy (Snapdragons Remix)

Oh Land - Sun of A Gun

On the heels of a crazy popular song / video for Sun of a Gun, Oh Land seems to be one of those indie darlings that somehow is still flying under the radar. I like it that way.
Since embedding the official video is not an option, this will have to do (and it does).

Oh Land - White Nights (Twin Shadow Remix)

Sunday Recap: Week of January 23, 2011

Here are my five fav songs this week - no particular order, genre or release date:

Yacht - See A Penny (Speak Remix)
Favorite track - rediscovered

Tennis - Marathon       buy it
You gotta check out this disc

Fitz and the Tantrums - Money Grabber      buy it
abuzz in the blog world

The Albertans - The Wake      buy it
First time in a long while that anything good associated with Alberta has surfaced.

Eagle Eye Cherry - Save Tonight      buy it
Yearning for some good old 90s songs

music for a sunny day

One of those days where nothing out of the ordinary happens, but you're in a mood where nothing can faze you.

I'm feeling like that - and no matter what - song after new song sounds like the most amazing thing ever. Hope it isn't just me who feels this way about the below:

Loving this song. I was hooked on the drumming / chaotic beat:
Bodi Bill - Hotel

A reminder of how much I'm missing the yogi roommate. Wishing I was hanging out in paradise too.
Katchafire - Get Away

If I were to stage a fashion show - for whatever reason, this song would be used. Is it odd that these scenarios play out in my head?
The Caulfield Beats - Two of Swords

new Dallas Green

don't walk - run to iTunes and pick up this track from Canadian Idol (like, the good kind), Dallas Green.

Shad & Dallas - Live Forever

coachella 2011 hub-bub

The internet is in a fit about the 2011 Coachella line-up. I'm not frantically looking for any indication of a confirmed band list. All I know is that the below bands will be there, I will be there and the sweeeet California sun will be there.

Tпойдите собака идет. I'm more a fan of the mp3 version:

Trentemøller - Moan (ft. Ane Trolle

Fanfarlo - The Walls Are Coming Down

Phantogram - When I'm Small

Posted a Phantogram remix yesterday. Go check it out.

vanity project ahead

I've been following Carter Kustera ever since he partnered with New York design powerhouse, Jonathan Adler five or six years ago. Carter does commissioned portraits - silhouette style.

Huge fan of his work. Just sayin.'

http://carterkustera.com/

I've finally decided to pony up the $$ and get one of these things to call my own.  Process is seemingly simple. Take a low-res picture, decide upon a quote and mail it off. He'll paint a side-profile painting, scribble in the chosen quote aaaaand

Two weeks later - BAM - art on the doorstep.

Not as simple as I thought. 19 macbook photobooth takes later - and another hour of witty quote brainstorming - we're finally ready to get this thing going. Will advise of finished product.
Of course I had to pre-contrast the pic to make sure it was perfect... I mean acceptable.

Here are some songs I fell in love with today while on a photobooth break:

340mL - Fairy Tales

School of Broken Bells - I L U (phantogram remix)

Snowblink - Ambergris

Grum - Turn it Up

Chrome - eee -oh-oh-oh-oh-oh

So even though I'm really not in like of the new album - I've had a lasting love affair with "Night by Night." Any time a new remix emerges, I'm back on the bandwagon. As per the below link, I am currently on said wagon.

Chromeo - Night by Night (OVERWERK Remix)

And while we're at it, let's just chat a little about this OVERWERK fellow. With an obvious love of Daft Punk (and an oft heard sample from Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger), we are treated to amazing remix after remix.

Let's call this one a guilty pleasure:
The Dirty Tees - Only Girl in the World (Rihanna Cover / OVERWERK Remix)

loving LOCAL

Just picked up a sweet little art piece from a crazy talented local artist, Julie Witten-Land. If you're in Edmonton, you've likely seen her stuff around.... If not, definitely visit Salted Studio to see what she's capable of. My faves are in the "Limited Edition" collection.
and a song or two to show some Edmonton song love... (edit: just one - got lazy)
The Faunts - feel.love.thinging.of (mexicans with guns remix)

sexy music for a snow day

Daaaaang, this was the view from my window today:

 - Hence, the need for some smooth music to get through the day -

23 musicians make up this outfit. I'm particularly impressed by the seamless transition from electro bleeps and bloops to 80s sax. Delightful.
>> Gayngs - The Gaudy Side of Town

A 70s make-out track for the 2010s
>> Mayer Hawthorne - No Strings Attached

What can I say, JBs mastered the sexy man voice / electro gig 10 years ago. Last Exit is still ahead of the game.
>> Junior Boys - Teach Me How To Fight

Found this song on a Hotel Costes compilation... Later to be discovered all over the cool kid blog world.
>> Flight Facilities - Crave You

New Year, New Blog

Hadn't updated the blog in a while... This is what found when logging in:

The entire blog was deleted - I need to learn how to not do that.

Shoot.
